Best Vegan Savory Waffle Toppings

Ready for a tasty journey? In this article, I will share with you some great ideas for waffle toppings. The best part of it is that all the ideas are entirely vegan-friendly. When people choose not to consume animal products, it can be challenging to find a variety of ideas for savory waffle toppings.

However, I tried to find and select the recipes that taste incredibly delicious and still fit vegan people’s preferences. Whether you like chocolate, spread, or fruits with your waffles, in this post, there is a better recipe to enhance the flavor of savory waffles. So, ladies and gentlemen, fasten your seat belts, and let’s start the journey!

Savory Waffle Toppings- Pickled Mango Tahini

If you like Middle Eastern tastes, this spread will be your favorite. The recipe is inspired by a local Iraqi dish which is Zalata Amba. Zalata Amba is a chickpea dish with pickled mango. For this spread, you should combine half a cup of sesame tahini, sliced pickled mango, and some water. Also, do not forget to add a quarter cup of agave or maple syrup. After you process all ingredients in a food processor, or blender, it is ready to go.

You can use this spread as a topping or dip small waffle pieces into it. This recipe is one of the Belgian waffle toppings with both sweet and sour tastes. If you like tart savory waffle toppings, you can add a little more pickled mango to the recipe. On the other hand, if you prefer a sweeter version, you can increase the amount of maple syrup or any other sweetener. Plus, this spread will taste even better with sumac spice or with paprika.

Vegan Bacon Patty

Another great recipe for savory waffle toppings is Vegan Bacon Patty. It will look and taste similar to bacon, but do not forget that it is plant-based, and it cannot be the same. However, it is good enough to satisfy your craving, if you wish for something salty, fatty, and fried. Also, you can adjust oil or salt based on your desired flavor to health ratio.

You will need a quarter cup of meltable vegan cheese, a tablespoon of miso and molasses, two tablespoon of vegan margarine, and rice flour for this recipe. If you add a few -around five to seven- drops of liquid smoke, it will give additional smoked bacon flavor. You should mix all ingredients, make patties, and fry each side for around two minutes -and Voilà! Your delicious vegan bacon patties are ready to join fluffy waffles.

Avocado Spread

Avocado spread is one of my favorite Belgian waffle toppings. It has simple ingredients and takes a few minutes to prepare. Plus, this recipe is very refreshing and is a perfect fit for your savory breakfast waffles

For this spread, you need first to mash one avocado. Then, add olive oil, fresh parsley, lemon juice, salt, black pepper, garlic, and onion powder. However, you can also adjust the amounts of ingredients and spices to your taste. Plus, if you do not prefer simple avocado mash for your fancy breakfast, you can turn it into a Guacamole. Just add chopped onion or tomatoes on top of your avocado spread and enjoy your delicious waffles.

Sage Butter Gravy

Though I do not prefer using Sage in recipes, this gravy is extremely tasty. You can dip your savory waffles into it or just add the gravy on top of waffles. For a perfect taste, start by melting three tablespoons vegan butter and add four tablespoons of arrowroot flour. Next, pour a can of coconut milk, garlic, and salt, to your taste. When the gravy starts boiling, take it off and add a quarter cup of sage leaves. After you blend the ingredients, it is time for two cups of spinach and a quarter cup of almond milk to go in. Lastly, return everything to the pan and simmer the gravy by stirring occasionally. Though the process takes some time, you will enjoy every drop of the result.

White Bean and Spinach

If you prefer savory waffle toppings with Italian taste, this recipe is a perfect choice for you. It is refreshing, healthy, and tasty. The ingredients of this Italian topping include vegan cream cheese, mayonnaise, cannellini beans, chopped spinach, oregano, lemon zest, garlic, and salt. I prefer to blend all ingredients except spinach to make smooth bean spread. However, you can mash the beans coarsely and spoon it atop of your waffles.

Jalapeño Spread

This spread is one of the best waffle toppings for the dinner menu. First, you need to process 1-2 jalapeños till they become smooth. Then, you can add vegan sour cream, cilantro, garlic, lime juice, vinegar, and olive oil to your taste. You can lay this spread on any savory waffles, but potato waffles pair with jalapeño taste perfect. Also, any vegetable like tomatoes will add a little freshness if you do not like the heat of jalapeños.

Pumpkin Spread

Speaking of best waffle toppings, I cannot bypass pumpkin spread. If you do not have much time, you can use pureed pumpkin and add a pinch of salt, pepper, garlic, olive oil to your taste. Besides, it is a perfect choice for busy times as it takes only a few minutes to prepare. Pumpkin tastes delicious with savory waffles. However, I would also recommend you to add white beans and chopped kale on top of this spread. Then the dip becomes more nutritional and keeps you full for a long time. If you like to pair savory tastes with sweet ingredients, you can also add a little cinnamon to pumpkin puree.

Spicy Black Bean

Here it is another member of savory waffle toppings that is an excellent recipe for dinner waffles. The main ingredients of the spread are ounce can of black beans and a quarter cup salsa. Based on your spice taste, you can add garlic, cumin, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and lime juice. Then process it in a blender to have a smooth spread. You can also keep beans chunky. If you want to add more freshness to this spicy spread, put some tomatoes on top.

Chickpeas Spread

The taste of this spread will remind you of Falafel. The ingredients are also similar, with a can of chickpeas, some parsley, chopped onion, garlic, and salt. Again, put all these ingredients into a food processor or blender, and mix it until your desired consistency. Tomatoes or some olive oil on top will also fit it perfectly.

You can also make small patties by adding flour to this spread. Fry these patties and put on top of the waffles. No matter in which form you prefer it, this chickpeas spread with fun falafel twist will pair your breakfast or brunch waffles perfectly.

Vegetables and Greens

When I started to write this post, I did not want to share simple toppings like a mix of vegetables. I tried to include the toppings mostly in the form of spreads. The reason is that spreads allow you to customize the waffles. As savory waffle toppings, you can add extra vegetables or greens on top after you cover the waffles with spreads. Tomatoes, onions, avocados, pumpkin, cauliflower, broccoli, spinach - add any vegetables you wish on top of your waffles to make them more nutritious and tasty. Plus, vegetables and greens make a good pair with nuts and different types of oils.
